Guest friends Erin Saul and Nicole Mackie of Dude, That's F****d Up join us for laughs about pregnancy and being thirty.

This week Gabrielle and Pallavi are joined by another podcasting power couple, Erin Saul and Nicole Mackie of Dude, That's F****d Up. DTFU is another amazing show on the WhoHaHa Network, so you know these are some funny ladies making some SLAY content.

Erin and Nicole have been best friends for years and years. If you can believe it, they met all the way back in middle school, but they will neither confirm nor deny if that was in the '90s. Even though they lived very separate lives throughout their twenties, they say told us that the constant in their lives was their friendship with each other. Shedding a tear at how sweet that is, NBD.

But how did these ladies start podcasting together? Erin was recovering from, in her own words, "a gnarly surgery," and was stuck in bed for days. The way she passed the time was listening to hours and hours of podcssts. She thought starting a podcast might be fun, and the only person she wanted to pod with was her bestie, Nicole. They must have some kind of sixth sense, because when Erin called her to talk about it, Nicole was already thinking about the same thing. Get you a friend that you have a literal psychic link with!

This Instagram post is in celebration of Erin and Nicole podcasting together for four whole years! Here's hoping G and P hit that milestone one day!

Erin and Nicole also shared with us the story of what happened when they finally lived near each other in California again, after spending most of their twenties apart. They decided to celebrate by going to BARS, and forgot that they are in their thirties now. So they woke up incredibly hungover. At least they got a funny story out of it.

In one word or a hyphenate, what kind of friend is she? What would her title be?

Erin: Nicole is, I think a Cactus Friend in a lot of ways.
Nicole: I think you are too, I think that's why our friendship like sustained for so long without a ton of attention. We didn't need it. It was like, you know, call me when there's a big thing and we'll be there for each other, and you know, check in sometimes, but we don't need to. I don't need you to hold my hand through like, I don't know. Like, I got a old bagel at the deli or something like and I'm like distraught about it, like you're busy.

What would you like to do better as a friend?

Erin: Because I am a cactus friend, I think that everybody else is too, and I'm very bad at you know, reaching out when I think of somebody. Well, and you know, like a lot of that has to do with like, I'm just very busy with my son and a whole host of other things, but like, I need to reach out more and be like, what's up? How you doing? I'm thinking of you. Just to all my friends. You know?
Nicole: I think I need to be, I don't think more confrontational is the thing I'm thinking of, but I just think when I like, have a question, or I'm like, maybe like miffed about something, I need to, like, address it earlier, and not let my emotions get all wrapped up in it. And then I'm, like, weird about it.

Erin, what is your favorite thing about Nicole?

Erin: Oh, my God, Nicole is probably the sweetest person, like a genuinely sweet, like tender hearted person. And it just makes me feel warm inside that I can say anything to her and she is just truly genuinely sweet about it. Even though she's like, you know, she could be, like brash in some ways. It's just like, I know, I know her so well. She's just a sweet, good person. And I know her heart so well that it's just, I don't know, she's just my baby. Also, her laugh is infectious. And she thinks I'm funny. So that's like, that's good ingredients.

Nicole, what is your favorite thing about Erin?

Nicole: Oh, I think I could have given her also like the multi-hyphenate of just she is a good problem solver. And also, she's just like maybe the most like, emotionally intelligent person I know. I think she is just so nice to talk to, like, gets everything, and I don't know if she does this for everyone, because I'm not in all the relationships she's in. But like, just can be there for you in the way you need every time. And I don't know if she tries or if she just is that way, I don't know, but it's very magical. Like I could see why she has so many best friends.

But first, let’s check in on our besties. Pallavi is ON LOCATION for her FILM! We know she is SLAYING in Oklahoma, but we can’t wait for her to come back.

The realities of being mid-thirties are sinking in as the gals discover Zoom backgrounds for the first time after doing the show virtually for a year and a half. Gabrielle was “fully fucking attacked” after seeing a video saying that everyone over thirty has not changed their makeup routine in fifteen years. And apparently Instagram is dying, which no one told us about. But if Instagram is dying, that means we’re dying. Thank god this week’s special guest is so good at TikTok.

Marissa Meizz's TikToks

More like TikTok or Reality. Social Med’s or Reality? It’s a work in progress. Either way Marissa Meizz rose to friendship fame on TikTok through an unlikely connection.

On May 17^th, TikTok user Drew Harding (@drewbdoobdoo) overheard two girls walking around NYC talking about how they were planning a birthday for the weekend Marissa was going to be out of town so she wouldn’t be able to come. He thought it was funny and make a TikTok about the situation, asking people to help him find the Marissa they were talking about, never thinking he would actually find her. Marissa caught wind of the viral TikTok through a text from her Aunt, and eventually decided to contact Drew. After talking with him and figuring out that she was the Marissa he heard about, she had to respond. Her response Tik Tok went even MORE viral than the first and thousands of people responded offering to be her new friends.

After being dubbed the “CEO of Friendship” and “The World’s Best Friend” by her thousands of TikTok followers, Marissa started No More Lonely Friends as a friendship hype club, and everything that happened after that just fell in her lap.

No More Lonely Friends hosted its first friend picnic on June 5^th in Central Park and over 200 people attended. From there the movement just kept growing!

Marissa told us about how she develops new friendships under all this viral friend pressure. Making friendship your business can blur the lines and be difficult to deal with. She says that you just have to put faith into the relationship and believe it’ll work. She mentioned that this can be hard especially after a friend break up like the one she just went through very publicly, which she got no closure from. Those friends never spoke to her again. Even though everyone should keep an eye out for red flags, believing in something is much easier than believing the world is after you. And isn’t that something we all need to hear sometimes?

Marissa has always had a passion for helping other people and wanted to advocate for mental health before No More Lonely Friends. She talked with G&P about how important it is to keep checking in on your own mental health while helping others.

“I would say I have like one or two. Like best friends. Yeah.”

How do you keep in touch?

“I live with one of them. And then the other one just like random texts or calls or whatever, facetimes, because she lives across the country so…”

“I would say like a loyal ride or die”

What would you like to do better as a friend?

“Possibly like, spending more quality time together. I don't really have a lot of quality time so when I do get it, I want to like, actually enjoy it and not feel like I'm just being forced to spend time with somebody because I haven't seen them in a while.”

What are friends for?

“I think friends are for a support system, a backing of you and them. I think that it's just a part of life that you kind of like, need and crave that social interaction of having somebody that you know isn't your family, or if you're not close with your friends, family, they are your family. And I think that's something that I've leaned into my whole entire life, and why friendship means so much to me is because, you know I'm not really close to my family so my friends are my family, and they are my whole entire life. And so I think I take that very seriously so when something does happen like that, it kind of hurts a lot and so I think that friends are that support. Support of your whole entire, kind of just, world goes round and you need to support them, they need to support you, and it needs to be like a mutual, it needs to be like a friendship, a family of everything above.”

Season 4 Premiere!

WAFF is officially back for a FOURTH season of platonic love.

BIG NEWS ALERT!

We missed our audience so much over the break! And there is a LOT for our besties to catch up on to begin this season on the right foot. Our wonderful Gabrielle has returned from her maternity leave! Everyone say congratulations to her on her gorgeous baby girl Mercedes! Thank goodness G is back because while P absolutely CRUSHED IT running WAFF by herself, everything is better with a partner in crime. As Pallavi says, “I find my power in having a good partner.” Also, G&P want to give a HUGE shout out to Head of Production Anna who basically makes the whole production run. WAFF literally could not exist without her. Speaking of babies, Pallavi’s baby was fully funded by the Tribeca Film Festival and AT&T and Land of Gold will be premiering on HBO Max! Honestly, making a movie is an absolute girlboss move and we are just so, SO proud of her.

WAFF Instagram Deep Dive

Since we are on a new network with new listeners, G and P wanted to spend the first Insta-Friends or Reality segment of the season reminiscing about some of their favorite past shows!

One of the funniest guests of last season was Queen Priyanka, the winner of Season One of Canada’s Drag Race. She was the guest friend on one of last season’s live shows where she spilled so much good tea and finally got G to start watching Drag Race! You can catch Priyanka on s3ep21 and hear her immortal words, “Thank god for me, fuck.”

Danae Mercer was a season three guest friend who introduced G and P to the friendship roadmap. Everyone knows that setting and maintaining boundaries with friends can be difficult, so Danae recommends the friendship roadmap instead. The friendship roadmap is a tool for lovingly discussing and explaining your boundaries with your friend to help them understand. We WAFFed about weddings with AJ Rafael last season! AJ recently got engaged and came on WAFF to talk about the tricky subject of wedding advice. It can be difficult to navigate a wedding and friendships, especially when people want to make your special day special for them! Gabrielle gave the wonderful advice, “Never take anyone’s advice.” To hear some more of our besties wedding advice (or lack of it) listen to s3ep16.

Going WAY back to the beginning of season three, a very special guest friend was Clark Moore. He came on to talk about how to give better friendship advice! Advice can be super hard to give, and it can be difficult to not make the conversation about you! Our besties discussed how asking your friend questions can help you understand the situation better and keep the conversation focused on them! As Clark said, “I’m less interested in people who have answers, and I’m more interested in people who have questions.” You can catch Clark Moore on s3ep3 of WAFF, and on his podcast, Soul Bomb. There were also some AMAZING solo episodes from last season! Solo episodes always are some of the most listened to episodes because we LOVE to hear G and P really get deep into those layers of friendship.
